Telangana to get solar power park, NTPC plant
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal stated in Delhi on Saturday that a solar power park with generation capacity of 1,000 MW would be set up in Mahabubnagar district.
Speaking to mediapersons after Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had a meeting with him, Mr. Goyal stated that the Centre was committed to implement the projects mentioned in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act in Telangana State, particularly to help the State overcome the power deficit following bifurcation.
On setting up 4,000 MW thermal power plant in Telangana, also promised in the Reorganisation Act, the Union Minister said the NTPC would set up the project in phases and the first phase would come up with a generation capacity of 1,320 MW. He assured to resolve power-related problems of Telangana by taking up the issues with the States concerned. Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao also met Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad, particularly on the issue of bifurcation of the High Court in Hyderabad. Sources said the Union Minister was stated to have told the Chief Minister that the two High Courts, after bifurcation, could function from Hyderabad till the one for Andhra Pradesh was relocated. Mr. Rao told Mr. Prasad that the Telangana Government would have no qualms about the High Courts functioning from Hyderabad for the time being. The Union Minister further told Mr. Rao that Chief Justice of India would return to Delhi next week and he would take up the matter with him then.
