Renewable Energy has been playing a pivotal role in India’s energy basket with present share of over 12.5% of the installed capacity. Renewable Energy’s installed capacity is over 26,600 MW with majority of contribution from wind energy followed by small hydro power, bagasse, biomass and solar energy. With India going through fuel shortage affecting the capacity addition of thermal power, clean energy projects, which have very less gestation period, are going to play a larger role in meeting future energy requirements.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is the nodal Ministry of the Government of India for all matters relating to new and renewable energy. The broad aim of the Ministry is to develop and deploy new and renewable energy for supplementing the energy requirements of the country. With the investor friendly regulations by MNRE, there will be huge potential for development of renewable energy projects.
